Joan Rieck
|
| lJoan ived for many years in Japan where she practiced Zen under the direction of the late Yamada Kôun Roshi, then abbot of the Sanbô Kyôdan School of Zen. She was authorized by him to teach Zen in 1983. Since 1984 Joan has led Zen groups in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the United States. In 1990, along with Willigis Jaeger, she established Sonnenhof, a center for Zen and contemplation in the Black Forest, Germany. At present Joan lives in New Mexico where she heads the Albuquerque Sanbô Kyôdan Zen group. She also travels to Europe several times a year to hold sesshin (Zen retreats) at Sonnenhof and other centers. |

Henry Shukman |
Henry Shukman grew up in Oxford, England, and has worked as a writer and poet for the past twenty years. His works of fiction and nonfiction have been published by a number of publishers around the world, and he has also written for various publications over the years. He has trained in Zen under Zen Teachers John Gaynor and Joan Rieck Roshi, and has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife and two boys since late 2004.
